Different Fashion Style: Preppy

Preppy fashion started in the late 1940's and 1950's when girls began to wear the Ivy League style of dresses.  Brands like Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Vineyard Vines and Elizabeth McKay are perceived as having preppy style.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was the wife of

the 35th President of the United States and

she was also the First Lady of the USA. 

When we refer to the Chanel jacket, we 
immediately think of her. She's known for her classy attitude, preppy style, and gigantic sunglasses. Jackie O. is and always will be queen of All-American chic.

To be considered as a preppy girl, you need to wear schoolgirl skirt, cardigan, tweed jacket, high socks  plaid pattern, madras, chinos, Nantucket Reds, button down shirt, boat shoes, etc. This chic and girly style came alive with the american TV show Gossip Girl. The character that represent the best this style is Blair Waldorf. This rich girl from New-York always wear headbands and tights. Bright color cape or plaid trench paired with black or original tights is the perfect way to be preppy like two of the outfits we see in this picture.

Another celebrity who has a preppy style is the american country singer Taylor Swift. Her style make me think a lot of Tommy Hilfiger because she wear a lot of sailor piece of clothing. I have seen her wearing a lot of peter pan collar and oxford shoes and these are considered as preppy. She also wear trench coat like in the picture in the middle and her outfits are usually in red, blue, yellow and white, which is sailor colors.
